Deb’s dyepot
Deb’s dyepot
Fancy equipment, pails, buckets, filters, cups and spoons! Plus of course, the ever useful knee high panty hose. Just the thing to put wood chips in for additional soaking and straining! Day before yesterday, I simmered the wood to pull color, always keeping it under 140 degrees. Today I filtered the wood chips and gathered them into the hose to keep them separate from the mohair. You can see the color that is emerging.
I ran 1/4 of the mordanted mohair (12% AS WOF) today, simmering the wood for an hour and then introducing the wool and simmering it throughout this cold wet day. The first wool batch will sit overnight and cool. We’ll see how the color looks in the am. This will give me an idea of how much color you get from a short 5 day wood soak! The wood chips in their hose holder have been drained and put aside for another use. I have another mordanted skein of wool to run thru the dye bath to see how much depth of shade I get from the second time around with the water and wood chips.
More info in a couple of days! The denatured alcohol wood chips are still soaking, you can see the color at the right!
Waiting for color - working on the wood chips that have been water soaked.
